Pregnancy declaration 
With a pregnancy declaration your employer can apply for a maternity benefit. You can request the statement from us. We will make and sign the statement for you. 

Register for maternity care 
You can register with the maternity care after the term ultrasound. So around 10 or 12 weeks, but no later than the 20th week. In the case of an independent maternity nurse, the sooner the better. For example, the chance is greatest that you will receive the number of hours of maternity care that you need. It can happen that you get fewer hours due to crowds. You always receive the legal minimum of maternity care 24 hours over 8 days. You have a free choice at which maternity agency or independent maternity assistant you would like to register. Tip: Amsterdam citizens with a minimum income who have Zilveren Kruis as their health insurance can register at the website of city hall for a discount and also don't have to pay the extra maternity care fee.


General practitioner / specialist and pharmacy 
In case of medication use, it is advisable to inform your general practitioner / specialist and pharmacy that you are pregnant. With certain medications you will have to adjust your medication or stop taking it completely 

Recognition and parental authority 
If you are not married, the biological father or partner is not automatically the official father / duo mother of your child. To establish this legally, he / she must recognize your child, this is possible at the Civil Registry. In addition to acknowledging, it is often desirable for the father to have parental authority over the child. With parental authority, your partner can make decisions about the upbringing and care of your child. 
  • During pregnancy 
        A cerficate is made which acknowledged that he is the father. The mother must always be present. The most convenient               moment is during pregnancy. 
  • At the birth registration 
        If this is your first child, the mother must be present at the declaration. Since a birth registration must take place within 3               days after the birth, it is quite burdensome for her to go to the town hall. 
  • At some point after the birth 
        If the father / duo mother did not recognize the child during pregnancy or birth registration, this can also be done later. A               separate deed is then drawn up in which the father / duo mother is recognized as the official father / mother of the child. 

Rights and obligations of recognition 
The father / duo mother is given the right and obligation to support the child through the recognition. With a recognition, the father / mother does not immediately get the parental authority but does have access rights in case your relationship would go wrong. In order to obtain parental authority, a separate application must be submitted to the court registry. Because the father / mother recognizes your child, the child gets inheritance. Recognition costs The costs for the recognition procedure are free of charge, but there are costs associated with requesting the required documents from the municipality. 

Parental authority 
Parental authority can only be applied for if the father / mother has recognized the child. To submit the request you need the application form 'Request for joint custody of a minor'. There are no costs involved in applying for parental authority. You complete this form together.
